Clive raises 100% grass-fed organic beef on his 120-acre farm in Ballymote, Co.Sligo. He has built his ‘Rare Ruminare’ brand based on his mix of traditional breeds such as Hereford, Shorthorn, Angus and Irish Moiled which are well suited to maintaining the farm’s species-rich grasslands. He sells his beef directly to the consumer.

He uses mob-grazing to ensure that grasslands are given time to recover between grazing periods and to improve the diversity of his grasslands through a more even grazing pressure and suitable stocking rate. He is a good example of how managing with the right stocking rates, size of animal and the
land type at hand you have you don’t have to supplement the diet of the animals.

He sees silvopasture as the answer to real resilience on his farm – increasing animal welfare and plant diversity, extending the grazing season while restoring soil function and water cycles.

Clive is a Farming For Nature Ambassador from 2019. He will speak about his experiences with mobgrazing and his observations around tree planting and establishing silvopasture across his farm.

The Wild Wednesday Webinars is a series webinars on the themes of farming, nature and heritage. Co-hosted by the Burrenbeo Trust and the Farming for Nature initiative, they will take place every Wednesday between 8 and 9pm, over the next few weeks. Each webinar will give us an opportunity to virtually meet and listen to a guest speaker as they talk about their ideas, experiences and lessons they have learned in their area of work.

You can text in your questions to Clive during the webinar through the QnA button in your webinar window. If you would like to email your questions to him beforehand or afterwards you can send them to us at [email protected]

The Webinar is free to attend but you need to register for it using the above-mentioned link. On registration, you will be sent an email invitation to join the webinar and will be prompted to download the free Zoom app if you don’t have it already.
